History

The dream of building a Port Terminal in Navegantes began in 1998, when Agostinho Leão, an
entrepreneur, acquired a few plots of land in the region on the banks of the Itajaí-Açu river.

With the support of local leaders, the entrepreneurs started developing the project and three years
later, Portonave was born.

The time and place could not have been more opportune: growing private interest in the sector,
favorable physical and economic conditions, unoccupied area and free of environmental
restrictions, and a navigation channel available.

After receiving authorization from the Environment Foundation of Santa Catarina (FATMA) about
the area’s technical feasibility, the foundation stone was laid on October 26, 2005, marking the
beginning of the construction of Portonave.

Construction was completed in August 2007, ahead of schedule, and on October 21 the first vessel
– MSC Uruguay – docked at the Terminal.

While generating foreign exchange and strengthening the trade balance, Portonave has always
respected the environment and maintained ethical foundations on the competence and involvement
of its employees, in addition to operating with transparency so that the community remained
informed of the changes happening around it.

The result of this partnership was already evident after the Terminal’s first year of operations, with
the Itajaí-Navegantes corridor entering the global logistics scenario.

Today, after three years of operations and significant achievements, such as the obtaining of the
ISPS Code, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications, the Terminal continues growing while also
driving the social and economic development of the city itself.
