
QUAY IMPROVEMENT WORKS
Portonave invests R$1,5 billion in the Quay Improvement Works
In January 2024, the Port Terminal began the Quay Improvement Project, an investment of R$ 1.5 billion to accommodate vessels up to 400 meters long with a river depth of 17 meters, and to install modern, higher-capacity cranes. With the new investments, the current capacity of 1.5 million TEUs will increase to 2 million TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit).

Phases of the works
The work is being carried out in two phases. While one side is under construction (450 meters), the other continues operations normally, without any interruption of activities. The first phase of the adaptation project was completed in September 2025, and the work continued with the second phase.

Responsible company
The project is under the responsibility of Besix, a Belgian company with more than 110 years of experience, renowned for building the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Around 1,100 professionals are working on activities at the quay and on the construction sites.
