Portonave expands operational quay length and enables simultaneous berthing of two vessels

Portonave can now accommodate the simultaneous berthing of two vessels, contributing to greater agility and productivity in port operations. Since January 2024, when the project began, the Terminal had been able to receive only one vessel at a time. The newly completed section was released for operations on August 18, when the vessels CMA CGM Thorium and Mercosul Suape operated simultaneously. Upon completion of the entire project, Portonave will be able to receive up to three vessels at the same time.

Already prepared for the new generation of vessels, the upgraded quay enables the berthing of ships up to 400 meters in length, matching the size of the most modern generation of container vessels, provided that the access channel and turning basin are upgraded accordingly. From now on, vessels can be served simultaneously without the need to wait for a berth position to become available. The result is greater operational agility, increased efficiency in servicing shipping line schedules, and better utilization of the Terminal’s infrastructure.

The completion of this section represents another important milestone toward the conclusion of the Quay Upgrading Project, which had reached 92% completion by July. The remaining phase is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The improvements also prepare the quay for the future implementation of a shore power system, which will enable the supply of electrical power to berthed vessels, eliminating fuel consumption during their stay at the Terminal.

This performance is supported by more powerful equipment. The Quay Upgrading Project is part of an efficiency and sustainability plan that, combined with the acquisition of new equipment, exceeds BRL 2 billion in investments. Approximately BRL 500 million has been allocated solely to 100% electric equipment, aligned with the Company's decarbonization strategy.

Upon completion of the investment plan, the Terminal will have 8 STS cranes, 32 RTGs, 7 Reach Stackers, 61 Terminal Tractors, and 4 scanners. All new equipment will be 100% electric.

Even while construction has been underway, the Terminal has maintained a strong growth trajectory. By the end of July 2026, Portonave had handled 750,571 TEUs, a volume 21.3% higher than that recorded during the same period in 2025. This performance demonstrates the operation’s ability to maintain productivity during a major infrastructure intervention and anticipates the gains expected from the project's completion in the coming months.

As an environmental compensation measure related to the Quay Upgrading Project, Portonave is carrying out a Recovery Plan for a Degraded Permanent Preservation Area (PRAD) along the coastline of Navegantes. The initiative is restoring approximately 40,000 square meters of coastal dune vegetation (restinga) in the Meia Praia district through the planting of native species seedlings and the control of invasive exotic species. The work is monitored by the Navegantes Environmental Institute (IAN) and the Santa Catarina Environmental Institute (IMA).

Located in Navegantes, on the northern coast of Santa Catarina, Portonave began operations in 2007 as Brazil’s first private port terminal. It is part of the Swiss group Terminal Investment Limited (TiL), which manages around 70 terminals across five continents. The Company employs 1,300 direct professionals and more than 2,300 indirect professionals, including approximately 1,800 workers dedicated to the quay reinforcement project. According to the National Waterway Transportation Agency (ANTAQ), Portonave was the most efficient terminal in vessel productivity in 2025. In 2026, it reached the historic milestone of becoming the first port in Santa Catarina to handle 15 million TEUs since the beginning of its operations.
