Portonave enlarge and strengthens ESG operations in 2022

New achievements, records and new line services marked the year 2022 for Portonave, which continued as the second-largest container handler in Brazil. With an increasingly attentive eye on Sustainability, the ESG practices –  Environmental, Social and Governance performed, being great protagonists this year.

With the aim of combining socio-environmental actions with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Portonave tripled its activities compared to last year. All initiatives adhered to the culture, education, sport, health and environment niches. There were at least 30 projects developed in Navegantes and state.

The environmental focus stood out with more than 90% of the waste disposed according to the Landfill Zero concept, which aims to fully utilize the materials collected. They contemplated this destination of hazardous, organic, common and recyclable waste.

At least one ton of waste was collected in by actions involving the Navegantes comunity in the clean-up efforts Juntos pelo Rio, Cleaning the World and Environment Week. Approximately 900 people were involved in initiatives carried out at Praia de Navegantes and along the Itajaí-Açu River.

Port equipment

This year, BRL 2.7 million were invested for the replacement of pallet trucks and forklifts, in the Cold Storage – Iceport. One of the main incentives for replacing equipment was due to the fact that it works with a lithium battery instead of lead acid, increasing the safety of professionals, greater durability and bringing in operations.

Another important acquisition was an Eco Reach Stacker capable of reducing 40% of greenhouse gas emissions, such as CO2, NOX and SOX. The model is used for full containers and has the capacity to lift up to 45 tons.

Technology

The department Terminal’s Information Technology worked on software improvement projects and innovation in Process Automation (RPA), seeking greater efficiency for customs processes. A highlight for Terminals Gate’s software was the creation of new applications for services with trucks and truck drivers.

Talking about the community, the Embarque na Tecnologia programs were launched, with the aim of encouraging young people to enter the segment, and Porto para Elas, with a focus on providing opportunities for women in the port world.

In the multilateral aspect “Environment, Social and Governance”, the company was a protagonist as the first port terminal in the country to achieve achievement of certification  – ISO 37001 (Anti-Bribery Management System).

New services, operational milestones and recognitions

In addition, a milestone of the 11 million TEUs handled and an achievement of first place in the category “Growth in TUPs/Container Handling, of the Portos+Brasil Award, from the Ministry of Infrastructure, marked our history. All advances were only possible due to a combined effort and commitment from more than a thousand professionals who are committed with the terminal on a daily basis.
